Ripon police on Thursday said they arrested a 31-year-old Ripon man for allegedly trying to intimidate a witness in a battery case involving gang members.
Members of the Ripon Police Department Special Investigation Unit at 12:30 p.m. went to a home in the 200 block of West Washington Street after learning that a known gang member, Isac Estrada, and another man had intimidated a witness to the July battery carried out by two juvenile gang members, according to a report.
The second man stood behind Estrada, police said, as he threatened the witness and told him not to go to court to testify against the juvenile gang members. The two juvenile gang members had already pleaded guilty in juvenile court.
Estrada was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of intimidating a witness, participating in street terrorism and on a state parole hold, police reported. He was held without bail.He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
