Police officers shot a suspected gangster and found a pistol at Makutano shopping centre in Imenti North District.Five other suspects escaped during the 8pm incident. One of those who escaped had gunshot wounds.Meru Central police boss Paul Ruto urged doctors to report anybody who seeks treatment for gunshot injuries. He said the gang was behind a series of attacks in Meru municipality.The gang had tried to carjack a businesswoman on Saturday night when they were accosted by the officers. The five men escaped in a stolen Rav4, which was later recovered at Kibui market on the Meru-Kithaku road. Police said they had trailed one of the gangsters until the gang re-grouped in Makutano. Here, the officers challenged them to surrender, but the one who was wielding a pistol attempted to shoot at the police before he was gunned down.
