Holidaymakers Are Now the Newest Victims in Mexican Drug War by CompareCarrentals.com News: "holidaymakers from all over have become the latest targets in Mexico as the country’s drug war spreads to weekend resorts. In the most recent attack, a couple riding jet skis on a lake straddling the border with Texas were ambushed by an armed gang in speedboats.
David Hartley, age 30, was an oil worker from Colorado who had taken his wife to see a church on the Mexican side. However, this was the last trip he would ever get to go on because he died after being shot in the head. His wife Tiffany, age 29, tried to save her husband but could not lift him out of the water at Falcon Lake. She had to flee for her life. She later said that they saw that the men had guns, so they both started to race away from them. She said that it was a miracle that she is here.
More than 200,000 British tourists visit Mexico each and every year. The Foreign Office has now warned this week of an upsurge in violence in the northern states. It said that there have been some grenade attacks in Monterrey, which is a popular base for eco-tourism.
Over the past weekend, a grenade exploded and injured 12 people. This did include four children, so no one is safe. The explosion actually took place at a public plaza. The Foreign Office went on to say that there has been a recent increase in the number of crimes and murders in Mexico. The security situation is fluid, and armed clashes between security forces and drug groups are happening without warning."
