Mara 18 and Salvatrucha are the most dangerous criminal groups in El Salvador

Insidecostarica.com | Costa Rica Daily News and Information: "enforcement of a strict anti-gang law in El Salvador has triggered an alert among Guatemalan security forces for the possible entry of gangs into the country.

According to local authorities, checkpoints on the southeast Guatemalan border will be reinforced, given that no visa is required to enter the country through that region, per a regional agreement that also involves Honduras and Nicaragua, known as CA-4.

The new Salvadoran anti-gang law, approved by that country's Congress and President Mauricio Funes, punishes people who belong to or fund the so-called Maras and other criminal gangs.

The Mara 18 and Salvatrucha are the most dangerous criminal groups in El Salvador."
