police arrest five, seize two kids in drug raids
Abbotsford police arrest five, seize two kids in drug raids: "arrested five gang associates — including a United Nations member — and seized two children in three drug raids last week.
Const. Ian MacDonald said it was especially disturbing to find a nine-month-old baby in one raid and a six-year-old child in a second drug house. The Ministry for Children and Families was called in to assist.
MacDonald said in about 50 per cent of the drug and gang searches Abbotsford police conduct, they find either a child in the residence or evidence that children frequent the home.
With all the violence linked to the local drug trade, “it is a recipe inevitably for terrible consequences,” MacDonald said.
Ministry official Darren Harbord said no statistics are kept on the number of times a year B.C. children are seized from drug houses."
