Man sentenced to 65 years in woman's death - chicagotribune.com: "reputed member of Chicago's Latin Saints street gang now faces 65 years in prison for the Halloween 2007 murder of a pregnant mother of three.
Cook County Circuit Judge Stanley Sacks imposed the sentence Friday on 21-year-old Orlando Avila, who was convicted in October of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Leticia Barrera.
Police say Barrera was fatally struck in the head by gang gunfire outside her home in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. She had just returned from trick-or-treating with her children, and it was her birthday.
Prosecutors tell the Chicago Tribune that Avila was one of two reputed Latin Saints members who had opened fire on fleeing rival gang members. They say the second gunman has reportedly fled the country."
