FBI agents on Wednesday arrested nine members of a Mafia family in New York City and Los Angeles for murder, robbery and extortion.
The arrested Colombo family members, led by their acting leader Thomas "Tommy Shots" Gioeli, 55, were also indicted together with three other jailed members of the criminal gang.All suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges; eight were being held without bail. One suspect posted a $1 million bond for temporary liberty.
Based on indictments unsealed in the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, a three-year investigation into the Colombo family criminal activities linked Gioelli and his captain, 41-year-old Dino Calabro, to the murder of two men from a rival faction in 1992.Calabro was also accused of shooting to death an armored truck guard in a botched store robbery in Brooklyn that same year.The other suspects are Conviction would mean five to 40 years in prison for the suspects.
