Ahmad Fahrul Rosi, was this week sentenced to 15 years in jail after being convicted of robbery with violence causing death.
Yesterday, the 28-year-old accomplice in the Bali murder of Australian fashion designer Heidi Murphy was found guilty of assisting a crime, and sentenced to eight years behind bars. NURYANTO Bin Sudar gave a killer a lift to the scene of his crime, then collected the blood-stained murderer and helped him dispose of the murder weapon. The killer, Ahmad Fahrul Rosi, was this week sentenced to 15 years in jail after being convicted of robbery with violence causing death. He escaped a life term because judges found the killing was unintentional. After yesterday's sentencing, in Denpasar District Court, Nuryanto said the sentence was too heavy and he was considering an appeal. He could have faced a maximum sentence of 15 years.
In finding him guilty and imposing sentence, Judge Made Seraman said Nuryanto's actions were damaging to Bali's tourism industry. "The act of the accused could bring a bad image to Bali's tourism because the act could give the bad impression that Bali is not safe," Judge Seraman said. He said Nuryanto's flight from the crimescene and escape to Java was not in his favour. However, he said that Nuryanto had honestly admitted his actions and regretted the crime. "The accused has given assistance to Ahmad Fahrul Rosi, who committed a crime . . . the murder of Heidi Murphy," Judge Seraman said. Nuryanto drove Rosi on a motorbike to the villa, near Kerobokan, that was rented by 34-year-old Ms Murphy, dropping him off nearby. After Rosi stabbed Ms Murphy to death during a robbery, he called Nuryanto, using a mobile phone stolen from Ms Murphy. When Nuryanto collected Rosi, the killer had blood on his T-shirt. The pair then rode to a bridge near Kuta, where they dumped the murder weapon and bloody clothes in the river before fleeing together to Java.
Nuryanto was given some of the money stolen from Ms Murphy's villa. Prosecutors in the Rosi case have said they will likely appeal against the 15-year sentence imposed earlier this week, saying he should have been convicted of the major charge and sentenced to life behind bars. Ms Murphy, who had a fashion and apparel business in Bali, was found dead in her villa in February this year. She had been stabbed repeatedly.
