torture victim found dying in a van was the father of three young children

torture victim found dying in a van was the father of three young children, police revealed yesterday.
Shaleem Amar, 33, had a son, eight, and two daughters aged seven and three.

Four men from Cambridge were last night charged with the businessman's murder.

Robert Johnston, 56, his sons Tom Johnston, 24, and Ben Johnston, 26, and Shaun Matthews, 54, face JPs in Slough, Berks, today.

Sri Lanka-born Mr Amar - who died of head injuries after being battered with a sledgehammer - is thought to have been tortured at a £3million mansion he started renting two months ago.

Forensic cops are investigating the property in Sunninghill, Berks, which is about two miles from where cops stopped the van.

Police suspect Mr Amar owed money to his killers, who are believed to have staked out his £9,000-a-month home.

He moved into the gated fortress from a modest three-bed end of terrace house in Bracknell.

One neighbour said: "He was rarely around but would pop in late at night. He looked shifty and never said much."

Mr Amar also owned three properties in Plaistow, East London.

Yesterday the Independent Police Complaints Commission said it was "reasonable" for police to take 37 minutes to find critically injured Mr Amar in the van.

A second kidnap victim was found tortured and murdered by gangsters in North London just 48 hours before Mr Amar's death.

Two men, aged 21 and 23, have been arrested.

But the two killings are not being linked.
