Preliminary hearing date set for alleged Santa Cruz drug dealer - San Jose Mercury News: "Ronald Joseph Silveira, 23, has pleaded not guilty to possessing drugs for sale, possession of illegal weapons and being an active gang member.
Silveira is seeking to get out of jail pending resolution of his case, but Judge Paul Burdick said recently he would decide that issue after hearing evidence presented at the preliminary hearing.
Silveira was inside a Portola Drive home on the afternoon of Nov. 3 when Santa Cruz police, the county Anti-Crime Team and the District Attorney's Gang Task Force served a warrant. Officers seized 4.5 ounces of marijuana, six grams of cocaine, several ounces of codeine cough syrup, 36 Soma pills and 44 Oxycontin pills, police said. Two guns, a semi-automatic, a revolver and two pellet guns with the orange barrel tip removed were also seized.
Officers said information and evidence gained during the investigation will validate an area gang as a criminal street gang.
Miguel Lozoya, 24, was arrested at the home also. He faces charges of being under the influence of drugs and is being tried separately."
