Missing Rochdale builder was 'kidnapped and killed by masked gang’, court told - Manchester Evening News: "A building site manager who led a double life as a drug dealer was kidnapped and murdered by a masked armed gang, a jury heard.
Paul Brady, 43, from Rochdale, was deliberately lured to a housing site so that he could be attacked, Liverpool Crown Court heard.
Mr Brady and a colleague, joiner David Collier, were blocked in by two cars at the site at Lynns Court, Weir, Bacup, and despite trying to flee they were caught by the gang of between 10 and 15 people, who were all wearing ski masks, the court was told.
Richard Marks, QC, prosecuting, said Mr Brady shouted for Mr Collier to run.
He said: 'The next thing he knew was that Paul Brady was on the floor in the road and was surrounded by between 10 and 15 people. They all seemed to be hitting Paul Brady with weapons. He thought he could see metal bars, baseball bats and one of the group was holding a shotgun.'
Mr Collier, who could hear Mr Brady screaming, managed to run off, waded through the nearby River Irwell and escaped."
