Daniel Kung sentenced to life for gang-related killing - BostonHerald.com: "Ponarith Uong, of Lowell, was 'executed' with a bullet to the chest in a gang-related shooting by hard-core gang member Daniel 'Steamer' Kung on the afternoon of June 24, 2004 as Uong sat trapped in traffic on Branch Street in Lowell, prosecutor Elizabeth Dunigan said.
After a two-week trial, a jury on Monday convicted Kung, 30, formerly of Lowell, of second-degree murder for Uong’s death and given a consecutive sentence of four to five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.
As she imposed the mandatory sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years, Hamlin told Uong’s family, nearly all of whom attended each day of the trial, 'There are no words to express what a terrible tragedy this was."
