THE youngest person ever arrested by the Met for having a gun pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, silencer and a quantity of ammunition.
The boy from New Cross was 13 when he was arrested on August 12 after officers searched the child’s family home and found a Baikal automatic pistol, two silencers and a quantity of bullets. He has since turned 14.Detective Chief Inspector Peter Beyer, of the task force, said: “This is an extremely sad and deeply concerning case, no matter what the outcome had been.“As a proactive unit, we are committed to targeting anyone thought to be in possession of firearms, however, not one of my officers wants to come across a child in possession of a live gun.”
During police interview, the teenager said he’d been storing the gun for an older gang member since mid-July.
He initially claimed to have been threatened to look after the gun, but later admitted that he had done it as a favour. The teen admitted the charges at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday and will be sentenced on January 30 next year.
