Bloods: The most prevalent street gang in many New Jersey communities -- including Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton and Buena, police say -- the Bloods have roots dating 35 years to Los Angeles. They're identified closely with the color red. They derive most of their income from the street-level distribution of heroin and cocaine.

Crips: They are traditional rivals of the Bloods and are marked by an affinity for the color blue. Member sets often are highly structured and overseen by higher-ranking members from more urban areas. They have a presence in all three of Cumberland County's cities, as well as some surrounding communities, police say.
Latin Kings: A structured, business-oriented gang, it opens membership to all -- not just those of Latin descent. Present-day members are encouraged to graduate college and infiltrate all levels of business. Its symbolic colors are black and gold. Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton and Buena police all report the presence of Latin Kings in their communities.
MS-13 (aka Mara Salvatrucha): One of the largest Hispanic gangs nationally, it maintains ties to its origins in El Salvador. Members heavily "tag" their turf with tell-tale graffiti markings. Authorities believe as much as half of the assaults committed by the group go unreported as victims fear law enforcement because of their immigration status. Bridgeton and Vineland police reported the presence of MS-13 members last year, but Millville police said they weren't in that city.
Pagans: A motorcycle club identified by New Jersey authorities as having a strong presence in the distribution of methamphetamines and steroids. Once limited to portions of Maryland and south, the gang's operation has grown to include much of the East Coast. Vineland, Buena and Franklin police reported their presence last year.
