Dominican judge frazzles the media in biggest gangland murders case - DominicanToday.com: "Secretary of the National District 2nd Instruction Court Friday morning ordered the press removed from the courtroom where the trial against the alleged members of the Puerto Rican murder convict Jose David Figueroa Agosto’s money laundering and murder-for-hire network is being held.
The measure is another reversal by judge Claribel Nivar, after announcing the ban on Monday and an exception to the ruling on Wednesday.
Court bailiffs ushered the journalists and others who aren’t part the proceedings out of the courtroom until Nivar decides whether to revoke the decision announced on Monday to ban the media during the reading of the indictment of Figueroa and his wife the fugitive Leavy Yadina Nin.
Defense lawyers Rafael Ariza and Ingrid Hidalgo said they’ll file a challenge to the decision based on the media’s right to access information and that the courts must be open to reporters, as Supreme Court president Jorge Subero stated on Wednesday.
Yesterday Nivar had assured the media that it would be allowed in the courtroom, but would have to leave until she concludes the formality of reading indictment the four page against Figueroa and his wife, the fugitive Leavy Yadiina Nin."
