On November 26, 2008, police raided premises rented by Thomas Ramdas at the Newington Industrial Estate.
They discovered, hidden in five sealed 45-gallon plastic drums, bags of Jamaican $20 coins totalling 4,840,000 Jamaican dollars, the equivalent of about £37,000.
Ramdas, of Evenden Road, Meopham, was arrested the same day on suspicion of money laundering."59-year-old man has been jailed after hiding stolen Jamaican dollars in barrels in an industrial unit.
Thomas Ramdas, of Evenden Road, Meopham, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for money laundering $4,840,000 Jamaican dollars which is equivalent to approximately £37,000.
During the three day trial which ended on October 27, Ramdas told Maidstone Crown Court that he had been storing the barrels for a deceased relative for three years, and did not see their contents until a week before his arrest.
