leader of a Falls-based set of the Bloods street gang is heading to federal prison.

Another leader of a Falls-based set of the Bloods street gang is heading to federal prison.

Percy Hilson, 23, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for his guilty plea to a charge of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine.

Hilson was one of 24 members of the X.Y.I.D. Bloods set who were taken down in a massive local, county, state and federal law enforcement roundup in April 2008.

The 15-month investigation, code named Operation Blood Clot, originally targeted Falls-based members of the notorious Bloods street gang.

However, investigators said over time it “morphed” to include other locally based gangs including Highland World, 9th & Wild and 18 Block.

An affidavit filed in federal court by veteran Falls Narcotics Detective Chris Clark indicated that while the investigation was under way, an undercover police officer and at least 10 confidential informants repeatedly purchased crack cocaine and guns from Bloods members, including Hilson. Investigators seized 10 guns, mostly shotguns and rifles, more than a pound of crack and powdered cocaine, some cash and a money counting machine.

A resulting federal grand jury indictment charged the gang members with counts that ranged from conspiracy and racketeering to drug and weapons possession.

Nineteen of those charged have pleaded guilty so far. Hilson is the ninth defendant to be sentenced.
